小児肺炎球菌ワクチン

 

肺炎球菌はのどなどから体に入ります。子どもは、大人とは病状が少し異なり、大人だと肺炎になることが多いのですが、子ども、特に2歳以下では、脳を包む膜にこの菌がつく細菌性髄膜炎（さいきんせいずいまくえん）が多くみられます。

 

この菌による髄膜炎は、年間200人くらい発生し、肺炎は12,000人に生じ、この他、重い中耳炎や肺炎、菌血症や敗血症も起こします。

 

小児用肺炎球菌ワクチン（プレベナー）は、子どもの肺炎球菌感染症の予防だけでなく、間接的な効果として、高齢者の肺炎球菌感染症予防に効果的なことがわかっています。

多くの子どもにこのプレベナーを接種すると、肺炎球菌感染症の感染機会が減少し、結果的に高齢者の細菌性肺炎など（主な原因が肺炎球菌）が減ります。

 

9歳まで接種可能ですが、通常は生後2か月から、4週（中27日）以上の間隔で3回、1歳を過ぎたら（12-15か月）4回目を接種します。

3か月からはヒブワクチン、三種混合（DPT）ワクチンとの同時接種で7か月までに最初の3回接種が終わると早く抗体（免疫）ができるので、より望ましいものです。

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, 7-valent (Prevenar)

Prevenar is a vaccine usually recommended for
use in babies and young children from 6 weeks to 9 years of age.

 

Prevenar is a mixture of the outer sugar coating (polysaccharide) from 7 different strains or serotypes of
bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae.

 

Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria are one of the causes of meningitis (a serious brain infection that could cause death or braindamage),

bacteraemia(infection of the blood),pneumonia
,otitis media (an ear infection that can cause pain and temporary,hearing loss and may require your child to have an ear operation).

 

The total number of injections required depends on how old your child is when they receive the first dose of Prevenar.

Normally, your child will receive four doses of the vaccine, at least 4 weeks apart, starting at 6 to 8 weeks of age.
